Katonga Wildlife Reserve

The 207 sq km Katonga Wild Reserves is located in central Uganda,200km west of kampala. The reserve protects a network of forest-fringed wetlands along the Katonga River and was just recently developed for tourism.

Katonga supports some 40 mammal and about 150 bird species, majorly wetland habitats. This is one of the best places in Africa to view the elusive sitatunga-a semi-aquatic antelope with webbed hooves that forages almost exclusively in swamps.
The large animal species habited in this reserve are elephant, reedbuck,waterbuck, river otter, colobus monkeys.

Katonga Wildlife Reserve can be best explored on foot and by canoe. Katonga supports some 40 mammal and at least 150 bird species, many specific to wetland habitats. The most visible are elephant, waterbuck, reedbuck, colobus monkeys and river otter.

GETTING THERE:
Katonga is three hours from Kampala, branching from the Mbarara or Fort Portal Road. IF you take a Bus from Kampala, connect to Kabagole then take a short distance walk from the entrance gate.
